Dann Glenn
Dann Glenn is a jazz fusion bassist whose sound and musical vision are rooted in both deep
tradition and fearless exploration. While he is widely recognized for his work in jazz fusion,
Dann’s musical journey spans virtually every style imaginable—an experience that has
shaped his distinctive voice as both a performer and composer.
A pivotal influence in his development was the late Monk Montgomery, the first bassist to play
electric bass on a jazz recording. Under Montgomery’s mentorship, Dann received an NEA
Grant that allowed him to further his formal studies, laying a foundation for a career defined by
versatility, curiosity, and musical depth.
After performing with countless bands and artists, Dann ultimately chose to forge his own path
as a composer and solo artist. Beyond the bass guitar, his compositional work extends into
the orchestral world, with six published symphonies to his name—an achievement that
reflects the depth and scope of his musical imagination.
Discovering the Sire M6 Fretless
What first caught Dann’s attention about the Sire M6 Fretless was unexpected: a headless
bass guitar capable of producing a full, rich, uncompromised sound. Many headless basses
sacrifice tonal depth, but the M6 immediately stood apart.
For Dann, the defining quality of the M6 Fretless is its sonic footprint—its sheer presence.
Despite its compact form, the instrument delivers a massive, beautiful vibration when plucked.
Upon first playing it, Dann was genuinely stunned, a rare reaction even after owning five
signature bass guitars throughout his career.
Built for the Working Musician
As a touring artist, composer, and educator, Dann values instruments that inspire creativity while performing consistently across demanding environments. The Sire M6 Fretless meets these needs through its compact size paired with a powerful sound, its visually inspiring design, and its distinct tonal voice that allows Dann to hear musical ideas clearly before recording—much like a film director envisioning a role written for a specific actor.
On Stage, In Studio, and In the Classroom
Dann currently uses his Sire basses in a wide range of musical settings. He is recording and producing video sessions at Soundworks Studio with producer Andrew Oxman, performing with a new fusion trio centered on fully improvised exploration, and playing live music venues in the evenings. Alongside performing, he leads educational clinics at universities and music stores, continuing his commitment to mentorship and musical growth.
A Message to Serious Bassists
Dann encourages bassists to experience an instrument firsthand before making a major investment. Visual appeal matters, much like presentation in fine dining, but true value is revealed when a serious player sits down, plugs in, and listens. According to Dann, once a bassist truly experiences a Sire, the impact is immediate and unforgettable.
